Frequently Asked Questions

1.

Why Custom Made?

Because "off the rack" clothes simply do not FIT!

The garment industry has "standard" sizing that does not fit many women today, unless you are the standard size - and who is?    In addition, many women are not satisfied with the fashion choices - for example, styles are too young, too matronly, or styles that do not flatter your figure.

Properly fitting clothes are very hard to find - as any woman who shops can agree.

Lack of quality in ready made clothes are the result of cost cutting measures by manufacturers who use cheaper fabrics and overseas labor.

2.

Is Custom Made Clothing Affordable?

If you can afford to buy clothes in upscale retail stores such as Ann Taylor, Talbots or Lord and Taylor (to name a few) you can afford custom made from Lavara Couture.  Only with LC, you will get the style you want, the color you want and a perfect fit!  It all starts with a consultation - we are here to help.

3.

Can I get help with my sewing project?

If you love to sew but get frustrated with fitting or are stuck on how to finish a project - Barbara can certainly help.  There are 2 options available:

1. Have your pattern pre-fitted by altering the pattern tissue BEFORE you make the garment. Prices vary depending on the garment and how complicated the design is, so call for pricing. Fitting is Barbara's specialty so feel free to call for help if you need it.

2. Schedule a private sewing lesson and bring your project and we will teach you what you need to know within the time frame.  Lessons are $35.00 per hour.  The recommendation is 2 hours so that you can practice what has been taught while you are with Barbara.  Bring your sewing machine and the project with you for the session.
